A little bit of history.

I grew up in cloth nappies, back then terry squares and fleece covers or plastic pilchers were pretty much standard along with the pins. Disposables had started to make an entrance but for a low income family these were just not affordable. Napisan was a standard in every baby household and closed lid nappy buckets in order to soak the nappies prior to washing and line drying in the sun to get rid of stubborn stains was the done thing. By the time my younger sister and brother came along in the early 90’s disposables were becoming more and more popular but while convient they were still expensive.
Fast forward to 2011 and I fell pregnant with my 1st child, I was determined to do cloth. Not knowing much at all and not having any one around that had used cloth on their babies besides our parents and grandparents I set myself up with a stash of terry flats and fluffies fleece type covers. All up it only cost me $20 for a 24 pack of terry flats and $3 for each cover on special at either Big W or Target. This was ideal for us at the time as our income had taking a real hit as prior to falling pregnant I was working 3 jobs. Due to suffering Hyperemesis all pregnancy I barely did any casual teaching days and couldn’t work at my vacation care job during h holidays, I also had to take lots of unpaid sick leave from my part time retail job. After having my little one I then started to discover there was a whole entire cloth world out there that was growing and I found all these cloth Facebook groups. It was during this time that I first discovered MCN’s (Modern Cloth Nappies) and loved the sound of them and defiantly wanted to get some just for ease of use instead of always needing to fold the nappies and needing a cover. Since we were on a budget I was shocked though to see that you couldn’t really get anything under $25 a nappy, back then this just wasn’t obtainable for us so I ended up searching eBay. Here I found I could get 20 complete nappies for only $40. These are of course CC’s (China cheapies), back then I was not aware of this term and also less conscious about my decisions as we all start somewhere as the saying goes. The majority of the time these worked well for my 1st and we would use them when going out and during the day as they fitted under clothes a lot better then terry flats. The terry flats and covers were our night time nappies and for around the house, especially when it was hot. During our nappy days we were lucky to be given some different brands to review including Cushie Tushies and Little Poppets. We also won some Baby Bares, ezypeezies and wahm pretties and a Bonnibuns night nappy. I also invested in some rumparooz pul covers and seedling Comodo wraps for over the terry flats. These all helped grow the cloth love and the quality differences and absorbency were so much better. Some of these nappies unfortunately didn’t join our stash until towards the end of our 1st cloth journey as she decided she didn’t want to wear nappies at 12mths old and started to use the toilet on her own accord, by 18mths she was out of day nappies (only took so long as we were still wearing them out because she hated public toilets due to the hand driers).
In 2014 while wondering what to do with myself while at home everyday with the 1st and pregnant with my 2nd I saw a job come up as a consultant for another multi brand cloth business in my local area. I enquired about this and decided to give it a go. My 1st kit arrived with different brands and I couldn’t wait to try them on my 2nd, in the meantime though this is where our love for RAWr night nappies came from as we tried them on the eldest and loved them. When she decided she no longer wanted to wear nappies of a night we gave the Grovia trainers and Close pop in night time pants a good run for their money.
Our 2nd was born in 2015 and I soon realised that we would need some newborn nappies as our cc OSFM were just not going to fit straight away and the terry flats were just too bulky under clothes. So in my hospital bag I packed some newborn Grovia’s, close pop ins, lil joeys, bambams and Issy bears. In hospital we used these along with the disposables provided and used only cloth from then on with him until toilet training. Our stash expanded to include Grovia’s, RAWr Hero’s, prefolds from various brands, Issy Bears, Baby Beehinds, Designer Bums, Seedling Baby pockets, Bambino Mio and Rumparooz as the CC’s just didn’t work as well for him. We tried Close Pop In’s as well but I’m just not a Velcro person and my babies loved to undo them, the 1st could also undo her snaps before 12 mths old. Any nappy we started to stock I just had to try so he was my little tester for a while. We also added RAWr toddler pull ups, Soakmasters and Bubblebubs Bamboo Delights to our stash for night time. Loving spreading the cloth nappy love I decided that I wanted that to be experienced by anyone who was interested and not let their situations hinder that so in 2016 I started working on a side project known as Cloth Nappies for Charity.
In 2017 an opportunity came up that made me decide I wanted to get into my own business spreading cloth love and providing reusable products for the whole family. This was when I saw Mumma Loves Bubba for sale. It took us a long time and a lot of discussion to finally go for it and make the second big investment of our lives. This was a step out of my comfort zone but am so glad I made the decision. I am enjoying changing up stock and seeing all the different brands pop up.
We have now been able to use our newborn stash again adding in some Bubblebubs pebbles and expand our stash to include Bubblebubs Candies and Bubakin and hopefully more to come. This time around our little one has been a lot smaller then our 1st 2 giving a good run on newborn nappies.
